Mike (me), Bob, and Brent will be riding this time from Salt Lake City to Boise, Idaho.
We will be taking the train to the start of our ride in Salt Lake City. We chose the train instead of flying because it’s easier since we don’t have to box up the bikes and re-assemble them at the other end. Yes, we know it will be hot — we chose the date way before the heat wave started.
I will try to publish a short story and a few photos on our blog each morning as we go. As I did last year, I’m carrying Brent’s Starlink mini antenna to give us an internet connection via satellite when we are way out of cell phone coverage.
For fun and emergency I will also have my tracker (Garmin inReach mini) to show our progress about every hour, and, in case of emergency, press the SOS button to summon help. Click this link to follow our progress on a map https://share.garmin.com/readyriders
We are riding part of the new route by Adventure Cycling Association called “Golden Gravel Trail”. Our destination is Boise, Idaho for a total of ~700 miles. About 60% of it is unpaved. You can see our overall planned route on this map:
We plan to ride an average of 40 miles a day for 3 weeks.
Wish us luck! We love comments on the blog.
