Hills, Kilts, and Burgers

As usual, before leaving camp we filled up our water containers, but for the first time, the water came from a spring, where it flowed continuously with no valve. Amazing that they have so much water here!

Climbing hills are good because you get endorphins and a view. Steve and I worked our way up and over the White Mountains of New Hampshire slowly but surely. We visited with a ranger at one of the many trailheads and she thought Steve was from Massachusetts because he said, “we rode down the cape”. She recommended Black Mountain Burger Restaurant after the hill – a motivator indeed.

On way down the hill we heard the festive sounds of bagpipes at the annual “Highland Festival” of all things Scottish. Even the police were wearing kilts.

The burger was great as promised and we rode into our camp at Lost River Valley Campground. A neighbor Ted gave us free firewood so we stood around the campfire singing a few songs (I think the others were singing but I’m not sure).

We love comments on the blog. Keep them coming!

Short day of 37 miles.
