Day 2: Strict rules on alcohol (reputation correct)

We were motivated to wake up early to beat the heat and got moving at 7:10. Breakfast was 17 miles away in the town of Morgan. The only restaurant open was Silver Summit Cafe. It was way better than our expectations (it was inside a 7-Eleven & gas station).

We noticed a ski resort up on the mountain but it didn’t show on the map. We were curious so we asked a local bike rider. He said it’s a new expensive, private ski resort named Wasatch Ridge I think.

Our lunch town was Huntsville which to me looked very nostalgic. We ate lunch at the colorful Shooting Star Saloon. You know, the kitschy kind with dollar bills on the ceiling, taxidermy and lots of Coors decorations. The first surprise was they would not let you enter without taking a photo of your drivers license. That’s lame. Luckily their hamburgers were tasty and the prices were reasonable. The bartender cracked me up when Brent asked for his burger without extra salt, then no mayo, then she asked “anything else princess?”. Ha ha. Brent said yes…no ketchup please.

We met the local art studio owner walking and he showed us his studio and gallery. See photos below.

Botts Campground luckily was on a nice creek and we cooled off and chatted with the neighbors enough to try to buy a few beers. They insisted we take them for free. Thanks Karl!

We rode 47 miles today with 2100 ft of climbing. More climbing coming up but shorter distance and some serendipity to look forward to.

Nice but too pricey for my wallet
