Just before we were leaving our Cherry Creek campsite, two riders rode down the trail in the opposite direction. These are the first riders we’ve seen and the first on our same route. Sarah and Tim are from Cleveland OH. They started in Oregon but they had to skip over the fire area because of the smoke. They gave us plenty of tips and some good stories.
We climbed Antelope Pass, one of the highest points on our tour. We then continued down into the Copper Basin which was a huge basin. We can see the slight smoke from the fires in the northwest. I can’t feel it in my lungs but I can see it in the air (photos).
Right before arriving at our Phi Kappa campground, Bob and I saw another moose. This one stood still like a statue in the river.
While setting up camp, a lady named Whittier came by for a visit and gave us several snacks. Whittier is a fifth generation Idahoan and a avid backpacker. She gave us several suggestions for the next towns and some good stories.
We rode 39.5 miles and 2900ft climbing.
Next we ride into the town of Ketchum.
