We chose Oxford cafe/bar for breakfast – a classic greasy spoon. The cook didn’t know how it got that name but he did say it existed since the 1880s – that’s impressive.
We mostly rode frontage roads along I-90 and our route included a couple of dirt roads and trails. One rough trail led us to a remote train tunnel with part of it caved in. Luckily there was a path around it.
We had lots of spots to look down on the Clark fork river and watch the rafters and canoes. We decided to camp at Forest Grove campground but across the street we regrouped and Dave, the owner of Pangea Rafting called out to offer me a free drink from his fridge. One thing led to another and one of their guides, Analise, offered to share dinner of corn chowder and curry. She and her coworker Kevin told us many stories of their river guide adventures. Thanks Analise and Kevin!
We also met John and his wife who were rafting customers but experienced cyclists. They gave us a preview of our upcoming days and route with suggestions.
Note: River Rat may seem like an insult but to me and many people,I think of it as a term for people who love life on the river.
