We got rain for the first time but luckily it didnāt last too long. We ate breakfast in the town of Brunswick at the understaffed Bohemian coffee shop. There were lots of rollers (short hills) today all adding up to about 4000ft by the end of the day.
We met two guys, Knute and Gatte, from Norway finishing their ride cross country starting in Seattle. They confirmed the motto of the Nordics āthereās no such thing as bad weather, only bad choices of clothingā. As you can see in the photo, they had road bikes with trailers which is somewhat rare but it worked well for them.
While eating lunch in the Baxter Brewery in Lewiston, I read some history of that town. Surprisingly at 37,000 people, itās the second biggest town after Portland. It was a big textile mill that started making uniforms for the Union army. It also had a big influx of Quebecers. As you can see from the photo, they repurposed the huge brick mills to offices, lofts, stores etc. They even had a giant electric powered air compressor left over as a decoration.
We rode a few dozen more rollers and settled into our camp at Sebago State Park campground. They warned us about raccoons and squirrels but we carefully packed our food out of reach.
