Per Gary’s suggestion, we ate breakfast at the Dragonfly Cafe. We rode the “Great Northern Trail” which was probably the train that carried silver and gold from the mining towns of Nelson etc. We saw a few cyclists but we saw about 20 motorcycles coming the other way. It followed the river most of the way so it wasn’t very steep. We stopped for snacks in the tiny mining town of Ymir and proceeded on to Nelson. Wikipedia says the population is 11,000 but it seemed much bigger. Baker Street, was bustling with tourists as we ate our lunch and a pint.
The Nelson City campground was more crowded than most but still convenient. We walked downtown and ate mexican food at the cantina and our waitress Jess, born here, recommended Big Dee’s ice cream for dessert.
She told me the movie “Roxanne” with Steve Martin was filmed here back in 1986.
It was a short easy day but we’ll make some of that up today.
