Day 4: BC = Beautiful Canada

Our first stop was in Metaline Falls and a delicious breakfast at Farmhouse cafe. Our waitress told us that her high school (Selkirk Rangers) that we passed a few miles back consolidated with another school and she was bummed that they changed their mascot AND school colors. Her whole school was only 70 kids. Steve and I saw this a few times in tiny towns riding across the US. I assume it’s mostly because families are getting smaller.

Our border crossing went smoothly and we rode into our destination, the small town of Salmo and its generous campground in the village park. We talked quite awhile with Gary, a recent local who was walking his “purse dog” as he called it – a long haired Chihuahua that had the coloring of a Burnese Mountain Dog. He had a lot to say about politics, metal fabrication and his former career as a pro golfer.

I got some Canadian cash at the one and only bank in town with 2 minutes to spare before they closed.

Our next ride is though the town of Nelson on dirt trails and more beautiful scenery.

Nice view and good echo. Hard to hear in a video

It’s hard to keep my eyes on the road

  1. Keep the stories and picture coming! Theo B is enjoying every one of them. Thinks you need to publish a book some day!
