The rain has us hunkered down in our tents until Devin arrived in his minivan with some hot coffee and energy bars. Thanks Devin!
Luckily the campground had a pop up canopy we could stand under until the rain let up a bit. We rode back into Waterbury to get bagels and breakfast burritos. The dirt roads are smooth but rain made for 1” deep slurry mud that we are new to. No falls yet!
We rode north to the busy tourist town of Stowe which is famous for it’s ski resort claiming to be the “ski capital of the east”. Bob’s phone connector had moisture problems again so the local repair guy sold him a wireless charger so he could charge it (albeit slower). Brent decided to go a different route and we will meet up just north of the Canadian Border on Friday night.
We continued on our quest north to visit Seth’s parent’s family farm in Hyde Park. Bob and I know Seth for several years in Echelon Bike Club. George and Jane generously made dinner for us and put us up for the night told us many interesting stories and gave us helpful local route tips.
They even explained the mystery of the blue plastic tubing that runs thru the forest. It pulls the maple sap from the trees! He said the transition started happening in the 1980s.
We rode 34 miles
